Announcement. Onyx Boox Darwin 9 - a new six-inch reader with scroll buttons
Onyx is famous for its slow renewal of its lineup. But this time, it seems that they have updated the case and quite thoroughly.
As you might guess, the Onyx Boox Darwin 9 is an update to the Onyx Boox Darwin 8 released at the very beginning of 2022. The same body. Apparently, strictly identical screen. Same batteries. What are the differences? And here's what:
- Different chipset.
- More memory.
- Fresh Android.
- Wi-Fi has become dual-band.
First things first.
So. The Onyx Boox Darwin 9 is a classic six-inch (111 cm²) cheatLCD with a high-resolution touch screen and easy-to-navigate navigation buttons.
Screen. Non-color electronic ink, E-Ink Carta Plus, with Snow Field support and proprietary Moon Light 2 backlight (i.e. color temperature adjustment is supported). Capacitive sensor, traditional for "ink" 16 colors. High resolution, 1072x1448 (300 ppi).
With iron, everything is unclear. Something quad-core with a frequency of 2 GHz. Apparently, the same chip that is used in readers Onyx Boox Poke 4, Poke 4 Lite and Poke 4s. Those. some Qualcomm. But what?! However, compared to the ancientm Rockchip RK3128, which is in its predecessor, it will be a tangible step forward anyway.
Memory. 2 GB of operational, 16 GB of permanent - a very decent amount by the standards of readers. Plus there is support for memory cards.
We have Android 11 as the operating system here. Again, compared to Android 4.4 KitKat, which is used in Darwin 8, this is a hoo progress.
The battery is excellent, 3000 mAh. Even with the backlight, this will last a long time.
Of the additional features, we can note the Wi-Fi module and the presence of Bluetooth. You can use it if you want.� connect a speaker or headphones.
Included is a case-cover, but there is no charger - only a USB cord (Type-C).
The Onyx Boox Darwin 9 page has already appeared in the Palmstore online store. However, the device is not yet available. Price - ₽14490 ($240) (as a gift - a discount of 679 rubles for the next purchase). But there hasn't been an official press release yet. It is possible that by the time it appears, the price will be slightly adjusted.
