As expected, today Sony officially announced its compact flagship Sony Xperia 5 IV. No big surprises. Everything is great, just expensive. As expected, the Sony Xperia 5 IV is the smaller (smaller) brother of the top smartphone Sony Xperia 1 IV and a logical upgrade of the Sony Xperia 5 III a year and a half ago.

Chipset - Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, i.e. the second most powerful at the moment. Probably, it would be possible to install Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, but it is not good for the younger flagship to have a more powerful chip than the older one.

Memory. On officialOn the Sony websites, I found information about only one type of device, 8 + 128 GB. Which, by the standards of flagships, is a little frivolous even somehow. In the news and reviews everywhere they say that the 8 + 256 GB variety will also be sold. There is support for memory cards.

The screen appears to have been moved from its ancestor Sony Xperia 5 III without major changes. Just got brighter. OLED-matrix with a diagonal of 6.1 "(87 cm²), high resolution 1080x2520 (449 ppi), refresh rate up to 120 Hz. (The older flagship Sony Xperia 1 IV has a larger screen, 6.5").

The battery is capacious, 5000 mAh (i.e. notand 10% more than the ancestor). Charging is fast, but not extreme - 30W (50% in 30 minutes). Wireless charging is also supported. (There are no chargers in the standard package at all. Yes, there are no chargers - not even a USB cable).

Cameras. Four pieces - and all with the same resolution, 12 MP. But everyone is different, of course. Main, wide-angle, telephoto, frontal.

  • Main. Sony's main sensor in the main cameras of its flagships has not changed since 2020 (it works - don't touch it). This is Sony IMX557. Has an optical stubilization.
  • Wide-angle camera is the same as Sony Xperia 1 IV. Sensor Sony IMX563. There is autofocus.
  • Television. But it is simpler than the top flagship. The magnification is only 2.5X. But there is also optical stabilization. Sensor - Sony IMX650.
  • Front camera. Here, like the older brother, there is a Sony IMX663 sensor.

Other. Has NFCMuzzle, standard audio output, stereo speakers, sixth Wi-Fi, side fingerprint scanner. In short, everything is just the way I like it.

Not forgotten and protection against water and dust - according to class IP68, of course.

Cheap, of course, will not. $999.99 (₽60200), €1049 (₽63200, $1050) or £949 (₽66500, $1100) at the start of sales depending on the geography of the buyer.
