Photo Announcement. Xiaomi 12S Ultra - super photo flagship?

The day before yesterday, Xiaomi introduced three 12S series smartphones. Actually Xiaomi 12S, Xiaomi 12S Pro and Xiaomi 12S Ultra. This news is about the older smartphone of the series, about Xiaomi 12S Ultra.

Previous "Ultra" from Xiaomi, a smartphone named Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, was announced in March last year and immediately became the leader of the DxOMark rating on the day of the announcement (now slipped to third place, but after all, how much time has passed).

I thought that with Xiaomi 12S Ultra it wasThe statement will be repeated, because everything indicates that Xiaomi has invested in cameras to the fullest. But either the suitcase of money was not brought in on time, or something else. But there is no long-awaited review yet.

Yes. Before us is a thousand-dollar flagship with an emphasis on photos and with protection against water and dust according to the class IP68. Let's get acquainted.

Let's start with the cameras. Xiaomi has announced a collaboration with Leica. How much this has affected the quality of the cameras, we will find out later, when a sufficient number of reviews appear. But the view of the smartphone has clearly shifted to the "camera" side. Stylized as old Various camera island lenses. Plus leather-like body material ("vegan leather", it should be).

Rear trio of cameras - 50+48+48 MP.

  • 50 MP OIS - the debut of the Sony IMX989 inch sensor. We all know that photographers' inches are slightly fake. But it's still huge.
  • 48 MP - telephoto periscope with a fivefold increase and also with optical stabilization. The sensor, as in the previous Ultra, Sony IMX586.
  • 48 MP - the same Sony IMX586 sensor, but the camera is no longer tele, but rather wide-angle.

Resolution of the frontcameras - 32 MP. Apparently, it is exactly the same here as in other smartphones of the 12S series.

Iron.

The trio of 12S series smartphones are the world's first smartphones based on the top Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, which is promised to be slightly more powerful than its predecessor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 >, and besides, it is not so hot, it saves precious electricity better. There are still few statistics on the performance of the new chip. The only AnTuTu score I've seen is just over a million points.

Memory. 8 or 12 GB operational, 256 or 512 GB permanent. (HereUnlike the younger smartphones of the series, there is no 8 + 128 GB variety). Support for memory cards, of course, is missing.

Screen - LTPO2 AMOLED with dynamically changing refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz. 6.73" (109 cm²) diagonal, 1440x3200 ultra high resolution (521 ppi).

Medium capacity battery, 4860 mAh. Wired charging is fast, but not record-breaking, 67 watts. Wireless - 50 W. There is also reverse wireless, you can recharge something.

NFC, Type-C, barometer, IR blaster - all the charms are in place. The fingerprint scanner is built into the screen.

Chinese prices are like that.¥5999 (₽53700, $917), ¥6499 (₽58100, $994) and ¥6999 (₽62600, $1070) for 8+256, 12+256 and 12+512 GB varieties respectively.

I already see a smartphone on AliExpress, and even in two stores (one, two). The price starts at $1099 (₽84600) for the 8+256 GB version.

There are already several "first glances" on the smartphone (including even one in Russian from the tireless ChinaInspect). I hide them under cat.
