At a time when all normal people were already cutting salads with might and main, Xiaomi announced a budget smartphone Redmi 12C in its native China. (Respect and full respect to colleagues who managed to write about this yesterday. Personally, I couldn’t, because I started to celebrate the New Year in the time zone named after Kiribati).

The smartphone does not represent anything interesting. It is very similar to the Xiaomi Redmi 10C model announced in the spring (it is actively sold, including in Russia). The charging speed has become smaller, the chipset has been set a little weaker. NFC-mmodule was removed. Appearance is slightly different. But, in general, everything is very, very similar.

Chipset. Instead of Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 (which gives an average of about 250 thousand points in AnTuTu), they put an older MediaTek Helio G85. It is slightly weaker, around 225 thousand points. But, by and large, the difference is not fundamental.
Memory. 4 or 6 GB operational, 64 or 128 GB permanent. Plus support for memory cards, of course, is available. (Redmi 10C has 3GB or 4GB RAM).
The battery is standard, 5000 mAh. Charging speed dropped from 18W to 10W. That's right, where to hurry-t��?
The screen is large, but simple. Diagonal 6.71 "(106 cm²). Resolution is only 720x1650 (268 ppi). Of course, there is no question of any increased frequencies.
The cameras are simple. 5 MP front. 50 MP plus something auxiliary at the back. The main camera sensor is not named. But with a 95% probability it is, of course, Samsung ISOCELL JN1.
Other. There is no NFC module. Wi-Fi dual band. The fingerprint scanner is located at the back in the old fashioned way. And - and here's another difference from Redmi 10C - in the newcomer we see the ancient Micro-USB connector.
From interesting things. A certain "exclusive optimization" is mentionedthis" version of the MIUI 13 shell. It seems that they cut off any little used, freed up memory. And they also promise a loud speaker.
There is no support for "our" LTE frequencies. Neither the seventh range, nor the twentieth.
The cost of Xiaomi Redmi 12C in China will, of course, be inexpensive. ¥699 (₽6920, $98.3), ¥799 (₽7910, $112) and ¥899 (₽8900, $126) for the 4+64, 4+128 and 6+128GB varieties respectively.
