But ASUS has been sluggish lately. There are few smartphones. And the previous top chipset, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, they missed. But the fresh Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 was among the first to react. More precisely, the second. A day before ASUS, gentlemen from Xiaomi announced their smartphones on this chip.


ROG Phone 6 Pro

That's what I really likeI like ASUS - they are very clear and consistent. No confusion and everything is logical. Smartphones are usually produced in pairs. And the differences between the devices may not be great, but they are clear and understandable. Same here.

ASUS ROG Phone 6 differs from ASUS ROG Phone 6 only more memory and an additional two-inch ROG Vision OLED screen on the back. Everything.


ROG Phone 6

Well, from the previous game pair ASUS ROG Phone 5s - ASUS ROG Phone 5s new devices are different:

  • Chipset - The 5s series uses Snapdragon 888+.
  • Updated even more frequentlyScreen ratio - 165 Hz vs. 144 Hz.
  • More advanced main camera.

Well, the cooling system has probably undergone some changes.

As for the cooling system, by the way, it is worth mentioning the branded external clip-on "cooler" of the AeroActive Cooler 6 smartphone, which has acquired a thermoelectric cooler (aka Peltier element). It is difficult for me to say how much such tricks can improve the life of game lovers. And plus, Qualcomm's mother swore that Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is not as hot as its ancestor.

To the characteristics.

There are few statistics on the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. But, as expected, in AnTuTu, smartphones based on it are confidently gaining over a million parrots. The best score I've found so far is 1111462 points.

Memory. ROG Phone 6 Pro will be available in a single variant - 18+512 GB. ROG Phone 6 has more options. From 8 to 16 GB of RAM and 128-512 GB of permanent memory. Support for memory cards, of course, no.

AMOLED screens. Huge - 6.78" (110 cm²), with a high resolution of 1080x2448 (395 ppi). Covered with a protective glasswith Gorilla Glass Victus.

The batteries are also huge, 6000 mAh. Charges ultra-fast - 65 W (42 minutes for a full charge).

The set of cameras is pretty trivial. Front camera with a resolution of 12 MP plus a rear trio 50 + 13 + 5 - the main camera, wide-angle and macro.

Main camera sensor - Sony IMX766 2020. Not God knows what, but compared to Sony IMX686, which stands in the ancestors, this is, nevertheless, a significant step forward. (Although the resolution has been reduced from 64 MP to 50 MP).

About money.

In Europe, ROG Phone 6 will cost €999 (₽64300, $1020) for the 12+256GB version. And for ASUS ROG Phone 6 Pro will have to shell out €1299 (₽83600, $1330).

AliExpress has already appeared a page for ROG Phone 6 12+128 GB. They promise that at the start of sales the device will cost less than $700 (₽51800). The store is official. But I'm a little embarrassed that an error in the resolution of the main camera was made on the advertising banner.
