Photo belated. Moto X40 - an inexpensive flagship

Last week, while I was enjoying the long-awaited flu, Motorola introduced its new Moto X40 smartphone in China. Powerful, with a super screen and ultra-fast charging. Perhaps, the newcomer can be considered the successor of the Moto X30 Pro model announced in the summer, only on a more powerful chipset. Plus, the X30 Pro had an insane 200MP camera, while the X40 doesn't. (Probably whined for the Moto X40 Pro, if one ever comes to light).

The processor is the fastest one currently available, i.e. Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (far beyond ma million points in AnTuTu).

Memory. From a relatively modest 8 + 128 GB variant to a quite convincing 12 + 512 GB. Support for memory cards, of course, no.

The screen pleases with an ultra-high refresh rate of 165 Hz. And upsets excessive roundness on the sides. Everything else is normal and typical. Diagonal 6.7" (108 cm²), resolution 1080x2400 (393 ppi).

Battery medium, 4600 mAh. Charging ultra-fast - 125 watts. There is also wireless charging. But unconvincing - only 15 W.

The front camera flaunts a resolution of 60 MP. So the sensor in it is most likely OmniVision OV60A.

There are three rear cameras, 50+50+12 MP.

  • 50 MP - main camera with optical stabilization and a rather large 1/1.55" sensor.
  • 50 MP wide-angle camera. The sensor is not named, but obviously something simple, no matter how Samsung ISOCELL JN1.
  • 12 MP - telephoto portrait camera, double optical zoom.

Of the interesting things, it is worth noting the presence of protection against water and dust according to the class IP68. Everything else is normal. Support for 5G networks, NFC module, etc. The fingerprint scanner is hidden under the screen.

The cost of Moto X40 in native China will not be too expensive. ¥3399 (₽32300, $487), ¥3999 (₽38000, $573) and ¥4299 (₽40800, $616) for the 8+128, 12+256 and 12+512 GB versions respectively.
