Southern Peru Shaken by Major 5.7-Magnitude Tremor, USGS Reports

The earthquake occurred within the Andes, a mountain vary in South America extending from Venezuela to Argentina that’s susceptible to seismic hazards.

A strong 5.7-magnitude earthquake hit Peru at 07:11:10 UTC Sunday, some 26.5 kilometres north of Atiquipa within the southwestern mountaneous division of Arequipa. The United States Geological Survey registered the tremor at a depth of 34 kilometres.
